09:51 pm - There's debauchery in here! I must face facts...
I am a shojo manga/anime fangirl.
I absolutely ADORE Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket.
This understanding means nothing to most of you, but it amuses me to no end. =)
SCENE: Adorable, blonde 3yo girl: "It's a reverse harem. This is a reverse harem!" Host Club King (Tamaki): "That can't be right. I must have heard wrong. Maybe there's still some water left in my ear from when I went swimming." One of the twins (Hikaru): "Ha ha ha ha ha. Water in the ear. That's gotta be it." Other of the twins (Kaoru): "I'm sure we just heard her wrong. There's no way this cute little girl said the words 'reverse harem'." Adorable, blonde 3yo girl: "There's debauchery in here... YAY!! There's debauchery in here!!"
OMG. ROFL.
Ouran is my new current favorite. =) Current Mood: fangirlish

11:08 pm - What a horrid day. A friend "yelled" at me last night. (For lack of better phrasing. "Bringing into relief my character flaws" would be more appropriately said.) I didn't go to bed last night in the best of moods, needless to day.
I slept somewhat, but I felt exhausted when I got up. I left the house 15 minutes after getting out of bed.
Friend and I talk and "make up" (also for lack of better phrasing.) HR tells me just after lunch that someone accepted our job offer. I thought my day was going better.
Then the web server hard drive fills up, causing publishing problems, while I'm on the phone with a needy client, working on his site. He was less than thrilled.
That gets fixed. Then I have to fix other issues with that site, which take longer than expected.
Then when I'm sending the email to let them know I'm done for the night, I get a resignation letter from an employee. (Another one with no advanced notice, too.) Now I have to stay later to turn in all of the 'resignation' crap that has to be done.
I finally get to go home at 10pm. I'm not hungry, but the hubby says eat.
So I go to Taco Bell. Not only do I forget to order something new without cheese (and therefore wouldn't eat most of it), but the guy forgets to hand me my drink that was sitting on the window sill, and I didn't notice until after I'd left.
So I decide to get Dairy Queen ice cream. Only Dairy Queen's closed.
So I go to Sonic instead. I order a large, they bring out a medium. I make them go get me a large.
And my Sonic Blast had no butterfinger pieces in it beyond half-way down. The bottom was entirely ice cream.
I get home at 11pm at night.
I know my day could have been worse, but that was quite enough, TYVFM. Current Mood: cynical

07:00 pm - The weekend's forecast... mostly work, with a touch of fun. The Memorial Day weekend consisted of work, followed by organizing the Shire's financial files for the books review (work), followed by work, followed by going to the Portland drive-in movies to see Indiana Jones and Iron Man (again), followed by work.
I worked 43 hours of OVERTIME last week. *sigh*
Indiana Jones was pretty good. I think the 'mythology' could have been explained slightly better, but it was done well enough in my opinion. I just think the reason that most people are down on this movie is because of where they went with the 'mythology' this time; a case of "Oh no, they are not going... they just went there. Yuck." Nevermind that there really isn't any difference between the mythology of the Ark or Grail than that of the Crystal Skull. People want to think that the Christianity-based myths are more "legitimate" because it's something they can understand, but it's the same.
If my theory is correct, that explains why this movie's mythology doesn't bother me. I've always considered all religion just a few centuries away from becoming mythology. A lot of people take exception to that statement, and I don't really care. They'll believe what they need to believe. They're entitled to their opinions as well. Just because Christianity was around at the same time as the Greek, Roman, and Norse religions were, but it has endured longer, doesn't mean that it's any more factual or practical than they were. It was something for people to believe in when they needed to be able to explain the unexplained. That's what all religion is (in addition to a method of control). All of the religions which are now considered mythologies were based on faith as much as Christianity or Islam et. al. was/is, so I see no reason to believe that eventually these, too, will not go the way of the myth.
Iron Man still rocks. "Let's face it, this isn't the worst thing you've caught me doing." Current Mood: tired of working

01:10 pm - Sadness So, admittedly, I didn't keep in touch with Pat McAdams after we broke up and once he was released from his job with my company. We dated for a few months, and he broke up with me, and that's more or less all there was. We were still friendly - I saw him a couple of times after that and we got along just fine still. No real awkwardness left, at least for my part.
I found out today that Pat passed away sometime in the last 2 weeks. He was about my age. Apparently he had an enlarged heart that he didn't know about. He was in the process of moving and it gave out on him.
The memorial service was this past Saturday. I might've gone, had I known about it in advance. I don't know, honestly. He wasn't the right guy for me, but he was most definitely a good guy for all his quirks, and definitely his sense of humor.
I know he will be missed. RIP, Pat.
P.S. I guess the Emergency Society will finally be able to get the domain name they've been after for all the years he's owned it. Current Mood: sad

05:07 pm - Missing old friends today The photo icon from today was taken by one of those friends at a renaissance fair in TN that was going on when he visited me in May of 1999. I wonder if he remembers that or not. He disappeared some 5 years ago and I haven't heard from him since.
I miss you, bionicmonkey. Current Mood: nostalgic

03:25 am - Fun with coding I stole Clyde's Gunganeese speech impediment and turned it into a LOLcat speech impediment. OMG, I had so much fun writing that. It took a little bit to work the kinks out, but I think it's mostly fixed at this point.

12:19 pm - In the market for a web site builder One of my guys told me on Tuesday that he is leaving and today would be his last day. Not pleased at the short notice, but OK - all's well and good since he was a great Account Manager while he was here. Best of luck to him.
He then decides not to show up to work on Thursday and Friday (after we made plans on how to spend his last few days), and he didn't finish the final requests that the Sr. Account Manager made of him. And he didn't have the balls to tell me that he wasn't going to come back, not even in email after the fact, or after I left him a polite, enquiring voice mail yesterday.
That is truly one of the unclassiest things to happen to me as a manager. Everyone in the department is floored at how inconsiderate he was, especially after I took the news so well from him and didn't give him any grief at all about it. He said on Tuesday that he told his new employer that he would feel too bad about not giving any notice at all and said he's start next week, and then he turns around and leaves on Wednesday, the day after he tells me? I can't understand if he lied to my face, or if he just made a decision later to do it. Either way, I'm completely dumbfounded at his lack of courtesy. I didn't know he had the ability to be such a jack ass, but I am disappointed to say I was wrong.
I have an Account Management / HTML-CSS2 coding position I need filled ASAP. Here's the jist of the job:
- One or more years of web development experience – HTML & CSS2
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs, in particular: Dreamweaver (required), Fireworks (Photoshop acceptable), and Acrobat Professional (preferred, but not a deal-breaker), Flash (a plus)
- Familiarity with Windows Office Suite and all Internet browsers
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Ability to discuss technical issues with both technical and non-technical customers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, phone and email etiquette
The main thing to understand is that this is primarily an Account Management position, meaning you have to communicate regularly and accurately with clients. The job is about 60% communication and 40% building websites. The clients are community banks across the United States. Familiarity with banking might help, but I really don't care much about that. It's hard to find someone that has the combination of HTML/CSS2 ability and the client hand-holding/patience skills that are necessary, but that's what I need. And you have to be relatively decent with HTML outside of a WYSIWYG editor. We use Dreamweaver to start the project, but we then put it into a Content Management System, and it's sometimes easier to work directly in the CMS without having to take the code back to Dreamweaver to do something and then port it back to the CMS.
The catch - you do have to (move to or) be in or near Nashville, TN - The office is in Brentwood, 20-30 min southwest of Nashville. I've tried a remote Account Manager before, and that's a nightmare I don't care to repeat.
However, it's a decent way to get your foot in the door of the web design world, if that's your goal.
If you're interested or know anyone who might be (and willing to move for the job), send me the resume @ ixidro at hotmail dot com.
Thanks! Current Mood: astounded

02:40 pm - Solitaire I just won a game of Solitaire on the 'Vegas' 3-card deal setting - you know, the one where you only get to go through the deck 3 times, pulling up every 3rd card? It's a ton harder to win on that setting than it is to win Solitaire regularly (unlimited times through the deck). I've only done that one other time, some number of years ago.
I would've made $208 (and it was in just under 4 minutes - 225 seconds). I think I'll stop while I'm ahead! =) Current Mood: amazed

11:15 pm - Unhappy camper Ok, I just have to vent because I'm really rather pissed off at the moment.
I busted my butt to get my name and device documentation together and get it sent to the new Cypher Herald BEFORE Gulf Wars. The P. O. Box is in the area, so I know it only took one day to get there by mail, which means I know it was IN the P. O. Box on March 8th, before Gulf Wars.
Two days ago she emails to say that she needs to know the date of the previous return since I said it was a resubmission.
The date is WRITTEN ON THE DOCUMENTATION, right where it is supposed to be on the form. But we emailed it again anyway.
Then at 1am on the night before the LOI has to be submitted, she emails to say she doesn't have one of the articles of the documentation. I'm 99.9% certain it was enclosed with the rest of the documentation. And since I didn't see the email until tonight, I didn't get into the LOI. Even though it took me all of 5 minutes to find the article on the website and write her instructions on where it is to print it. But I didn't get into the LOI even though I'm certain she had everything she needed and all she had to do was add it to the LOI.
Not a good first impression at all.
Just remember she's a volunteer... o (who didn't look at it for 2 weeks) o ... She's new to this... Even though the whole process takes several months, one more isn't going to kill me in the end...
I just didn't want to be behind all of the Gulf Wars crap. That's specifically why I turned it in early. And it didn't do any good now.
I still have the right to be a little upset. I'll get over it. Current Mood: pissed off

09:34 am - Work I realized the other day that I don't like going to work anymore. Maybe it's just because in the last few months, all we have is clients pissed off that we're 2 months behind schedule because I'm still 1 person down in the department from what I was supposed to be and we're working a lot of overtime to catch up and try not to piss anyone off even further. (I've gotten to the point where I haven't been working the overtime in order to escape for a while.)
I'm tired of dealing with irate clients, when in nearly every case it's just as much their fault as ours. (It's just before, we could point out it was all their fault and none of ours.)
I'm tired of dealing with management issues instead of being able to get into building a website.
I'm tired of the corporate BS that goes on - why in the hell do we have to be business casual 4 out of 5 days a week? There's no one that ever walks past their cubes unless its someone that we bring over there, at which point we can warn them to dress nice that day. But other parts of the company complain if we dress down when they can't.
I do like my boss. I can say these things to him and he understands and makes sure I know he doesn't think I'm a bad manager, and he doesn't loom over me. But some days that's not enough.
I'm just so incredibly tired of it all. And I don't think it's because I didn't sleep well last night. Current Mood: exhausted

01:34 pm - Animeniac! Ok, so I've really gotten into watching Anime of late since Netflix started allowing unlimited viewing of some of the Instant Viewing options. It's a fast way to go through series that I might not have otherwise bothered watching. (I'm trying to only start series that are completely available instantly and not missing a disc I'd have to wait on.) Much to my husband's chagrin, I've also been viewing anime with my regular Netflix DVD selections AND recording what's available on Tivo, so he's stopped watching them with me for the most part.
I've gotten to where I look for certain names because I like their voices so much, and I can usually pick out Jay Hickman, Illich Guardiola, and Monica Rial without having to look. I also love the voices of Chris Patton, Braden Hunt, Vic Mignogna, Hilary Haag, and more or less all of the Geneon regulars. I haven't yet gotten into watching them in Japanese subtitled.
So, I figured I'd go over all of the anime I've watched in the last 6 months, as much for myself as anything. * means I liked it, ** means I adore it, and *** means I now own it too.
In progress: Witchblade (Still undecided. I came into the middle of the series on TV. I think I like the Live Action series better.) * Moonphase (I came into the middle of the series and now I'm watching the beginning and nearly finished. The last episode was WEIRD!!!) * Saiyuki Reload (The story's still fine, but I miss the original English voice actors from Saiyuki [done by Geneon].) ** The Wallflower (not completely released yet)
Completed (most recently completed listed first): ( Completed in the last 6-7 months )
Couldn't bring myself to finish it: Nurse Witch Komugi (annoying) Sister Princess (slow and annoying)
In the previous year (2006-mid2007): ( Completed 2006-mid2007 list )
I even bought a few anime soundtracks last week that I'm waiting to receive in the mail.
So, enough with the anime already. I've got a list of over 100 that I still want to rent on DVD from Netflix that aren't currently on the Instant viewing list. There are a lot of series that I probably wouldn't have tried except for the fact that they were Instantly available, some of which I'm really glad that I did, like Chance Pop Session and Air Gear and Saiyuki. 09:45 pm - Spamalot We had the opportunity to see Spamalot tonight at Tennessee's Performing Arts Center (TPAC). That show is amazing and really funny. You get a lot of good moments on the soundtrack of the musical, but not all of them. I highly encourage everyone to see it if they can (presuming you like the movie Monty Python's The Holy Grail).
Next on the list, I just gotta see Avenue Q, but it's going to be 2 or 3 seasons before it's in town. I WILL be there, though.
In other news, I worked some on Pinnacle Base this weekend. It doesn't feel like I got a lot accomplished because it was all in 2 rooms, but they were hellish rooms... =) Current Mood: impressed

03:40 pm - Year of the Dirty Rat So, being as today is the Chinese New Year and begins the Year of the Brown Earth Rat (not sure if it is Yin or Yang though), I decided to look up what I was. I had always been told that 1976 was the Year of the Dragon, which is always a special year to be born into. However, I was disillusioned a few years ago when I found out that it goes by Chinese new year, not the Gregorian new year, and thus I'm technically year of the Rabbit. (I've asked friends - I share a lot more of the 'traits' of Dragons than Rabbits, but I digress.)
So, I knew the animal, but I didn't know the element, so I went to go look it up. Here's the site I found that list from 1900-2020: http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/NewYearDays.htm
According to that, I'm technically the Year of the Green Wood Rabbit because I was born before Jan 31, though I ought to have been the Red Fire Dragon (I was born a month premature! Ask my dad - he wasn't allowed to watch my birth because they were supposed to go to Lamaze class the next week and they wouldn't let him in since he hadn't had it yet, and they thought he might have a weak stomach - my father is so not that type).
My husband is definitely the White Metal Monkey (in any sense you want to take that to mean).
Anyway, happy Chinese New Year! =) Current Mood: curious
